Andy Maher: Head Coach of the MN Flying AcesThe MN Flying Aces are thrilled to welcome Andy Maher, new Head Coach for the 2013-2014 season. Andy brings with him a wealth of information and experience to the ACES organization. We look forward to seeing the result of Andy's hard work in the upcoming season.
Andy has coached for over 6 seasons for the NAHL. He began his coaching career for the Alexandria Blizzard, a longtime member of the NAHL. After Alexandria, Andy has made stops in Mason City with the North Iowa Outlaws, AAA in Colorado, Springfield for 3 years (2 as head coach), and most frequently Fresno. In his coaching career, Andy has helped 20 student-athletes advance to the Division 1 level. In his spare time, Andy enjoys spending time with his wife, being outdoors, and watching sporting events. Andy is Excited to be back in MN and looks forward to building a winning tradition in Little Falls with the Flying Aces. Adam Gronlund Named Aces Goalie CoachAdam is a 2001 Graduate of Coon Rapids High School. 4-year Varsity starting goaltender at Coon Rapids, he still holds the record for most starts and most saves in a career.
Adam was invited to be a part of the USA National Team Development Program in 1998, but declined to stay at home and continue to play baseball in addition to hockey. He was a part of the Coon Rapids team that won the 2001 Boys State Baseball tournament as a high school senior. Adam played one year of Junior hockey post-high school with the Butte Irish of the NAHL and the Fort Erie Meteors in the Ontario Provincial League.
Although, receiving offers from many MIAC schools and being tendered in the USHL, two knee injuries ended Adam’s playing career and he enrolled at the University of Minnesota Duluth, majoring in Psychology. Adam served as the UMD Women’s Club Hockey team’s head coach for four seasons, his final season culminating in a trip to the National Tournament, his team losing in overtime in the Championship. During that time Adam served as the Goalie Coach for the Duluth East Girl’s hockey team for two seasons. His goalie from Duluth went on to play college hockey at Harvard University.
After graduation, Adam was hired by the Maple Grove Boy’s hockey team as their goalie coach. Adam just finished his fifth season with the team, and was fortunate to be a part of the Maple Grove boys first Section 5AA Championship and trip to the State High School Hockey Tournament. Adam’s goalie at Maple Grove during the 2010-11 season was named to the All-Metro team and his goalie during the 2011-12 season was Named All-State and was one of two nominees for the Frank Brimsek Award, given to the most outstanding Senior goaltender.
Adam currently serves as the goalie coach for his alma mater the Coon Rapids Boys and Girls High School teams and with the Minnesota Flying Aces of the NA3HL.
